Candlebox performed at Manchester 65 in West Warwick, R.I. on Wednesday, August 14, 2013. But it almost didn’t happen.
Manchester 65 is a new venue that conveniently opened around the same time as the only other comparable venue in the area shuttered its doors. The venue was supposed to open at 7pm, but as of fifteen minutes past the hour, everyone was still lined-up outside. “They’re not letting people in,” one woman told me. A quick internet search revealed that something was amiss:
We’re trying but we can’t polish a turd! Hope they get this PA fixed soon.

Once inside, people were biding their time by socializing and drinking while anxiously waiting for music to begin. The gear for the opening acts, Candlelight Red and Open Air Stereo, was still lined up against the side wall. Candlelight Red’s tour manager informed me that they would not be playing. Yikes.
Outside the venue, the promoter, venue owner and staff were scrambling to remedy the issues holding up the show. Finally at 9:45pm, new PA gear arrived and the crew rushed it though the front door. By 10:45pm Candlebox took the stage to rock the house.
The band burned through their well-known tracks, including “Mothers Dream,” “You” and “Far Behind.” Despite the delay, the band sounded amazing.

Manchester 65 is still a new club that is clearly experiencing some growing pains. I expect the venue will figure it out by the time the next big act rolls through town.
